The United Arab Emirates is considered one of the most important pioneering countries in the field of human rights support, as the UAE government has supported many initiatives and achievements under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, as he emphasized that humanity, tolerance and coexistence are values upon which the UAE was founded since declaration of its union in 1971.
The UAE won membership in the United Nations Human Rights Council between 2022 and 2024, after obtaining 180 votes, after elections in the Council, to confirm the pioneering and global role that the UAE plays in the humanitarian field, and its full commitment to preserving and preserving human rights locally, in the Arab world and globally, and among the most important decisions and initiatives Which reflects the state's keenness to preserve human rights locally, the issuance of Federal Law No. 12 of 2021 regarding the "National Commission for Human Rights", whose tasks include "participation in international and regional forums concerned with human rights."
The establishment of this commission came within the framework of the UAE's keenness to strengthen and develop its institutional structure concerned with human rights, in a way that contributes to strengthening its position and highlighting its role in this field at the international level.
These include the Federal Law on the Protection of Witnesses and the like, and the Federal Law on the National Human Rights Commission, in addition to the introduction of important legislative amendments that included penal laws, combating discrimination and hatred, personal status, civil transactions, criminal procedures, commercial companies, and labor.
